I turned this maple bowl earlier this week and encountered a lot of soft punky wood. I know there a plenty of ways to harden it But was never quite sure when you go about trying to harden it. Do I wait for the bowl to dry out first or do I do it while its still wet.

I'm going to try minwax wood hardener unless someone has a better idea.

Thanks, Jonathan

I would wait till it's dry for the best penetration of the hardener.

I've only used CA to treat punky spots, not sure how the MinWax Hardener looks with a clear finish. Might be worth trying a sample to see if you like it.

You have a spectacular piece of wood here so I would do everything to save it. The wood hardner will work, I have heard good results from using eposy cut with DNA works good also.

What a beautiful piece of wood! You just have to save this one. I have used the wood hardener successfully with both wet and dry wood, but I think I would follow Ron's advice and dry it first on this one.:)

I would DNA soak it and let is dry. Then like Ron said put it on then after it has dried then finish turn it.
