There are times when I realize what a dolt I either am or have been. Just got the new LV catalog and EUREKA, I sat down and went through with a red sharpie. I marked the items that I found attractive. Took them into SWMBO and said that when anyone could not figure out what to get me for some occasion, Just look in the bookl!!!
How come its taken me 78 years to figure that out. (pop me on the forehead!!!)

I've heard that one a time or two myself and its so true. In any context its always about your tool.

Yep, a good way of getting what you'd like to have and still being pleasantly surprised. You did mark a bunch of stuff, right Ed? If so, plenty of room for surprises. :D

Ed, that's a great idea, but not with my family. I've gotten to the point with my in-laws that I just ask for the money. If I marked a catalog like you did I know they'd still screw it up. It's not that I don't appreciate their gifts, but buying me cloths that aren't my style and don't fit (would you believe two dress shirts that were different sizes and I don't even wear dress shirts) and things that I can't use is a waste of their money.

That works, but you can also go to their website and create a wishlist for yourself, that your friends and family can browse. You can add or remove things anytime. I use it also just kind of as a reminder to myself of things that could be useful.

Ed, Hubby and I have done the same thing for years. He does it with his tool catalogs; I do it with clothing and jewelry catalogs. Works great! We both get what we want and no agonizing over "what do I get him this year?"

If I were to try that, I am sure that LOML would have something to say such as "Wouldn't it have ben easier to mark the stuff you didn't like?"

Maybe, but then you'd have your Christmas/birthday/Father's Day/anniversary wish lists done for the next umpty-umpt years!:D

yep - do that every year. Works out great. Last year it netted me a medium shoulder plane and a block plane. Did it last night in-fact while I was sitting with my son while he did his homework. :)
