I am turning chair rungs and I am using a 3/8" 4 spur drive. It works OK but I end up with a big hole on the drive end. I am thinking about ordering a 1/2" 4 prong drive or a 1/2" inch stebb drive to sove the problem. Will this cure the problem? Is it worth it to just pay the 60.00 and get the stebb drive? The reason I am staying at 1/2" is so I don't hit the drive with the tool. The end of the rungs are 5/8"

Thanks

Based on the information you posted- I am guessing yes- if the the diameter of the rungs far exceeds the drive spur - you will have run-out in the drive spur end - there is not enough surface bite to sustain the turning process. 3/8" is to small in my opinion. I would jump up to a larger diameter- but in respect to what your turning.

Quin,
I have the psi version of the steb drive and it works great, and is only half the price.
