If I read it right, this one is NOT the variable speed model, but the older single speed, no soft start one.

Yeah looks like the single speed model...but still a good price..normally sells for about $220 with shipping.

I went to the Bosch website and looked at this new model. According to the specs, it does have variable speed. I intend to telephone Bosch to try to determine what the difference is between this one and the 1617EVSPK.

That is the single speed modle.

They do say that it is 8000 to 25000 but when you go look at the manual it states


SPEED CONTROL DIAL
Models 1617EVS
& 1618EVS only

So I would say this 1617 PK is a single speed.

But sill for that price its a very good buy.
