Is melamine laser engravable?

Is this safe for me to engrave? It's 1/4 inch MDF with a white melamine coating.

Yes. I've engraved and cut it often. Actually makes pretty good letters for indoor use if you paint the edges.If you engrave barely through it there's a nice dark color to the MDF, but it can easily be color filled too.
