Hi guys.
It's obvious that the old Stanley knuckle cap plane has been around for a while now.
But I'm interested to know: how accurately can you date a plane from the knuckle cap? I've seen a few different variants around; there's obviously the really old more fragile-looking cap, but then in the 'newer' (stronger) design there are several different variants; the Sweethart cap, the 'Stanley 2-18-13' cap, and just plain old 'Stanley'.
Does anyone know how accurately you can date block planes with the caps? And were there other variants that I haven't mentioned?
Perhaps the blades are a better clue?
Cheers,
Adriaan
