Bill,
I've got a couple of dozen of these babies. They work really well. It's the only HF tool I own or still have left.;) You must make sure you pre-program the screws and clamp them in place when doing a large edgebanding glue-up or else you will spend valuable time fiddling with the clamps.

I can't see buying Bessey's edge clamps at $70 each. I often use 20 at one time. So it's either $40 for HFs or $1,400 for the Besseys. As a hobbyist, it's a no brainer.

I also heard discouraging things about the 'semi-clones' of the besseys on this forum and others. They usually sell at less than $15. The major complaint is that they slip.

I've never used this style of edge clamp. How do you keep them from denting the surface of the wood that's being edged? Clamp pads? The price is sure right anyway. I have some like this from HF and they work great. http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/Displayitem.taf?itemnumber=43614 They're on sale for $4 a piece right now too. They used to carry a larger version too but I didn't see it on their website. Another one of many HF gems.

Bruce,
When using these clamps, I need to use wooden pads....and it can be a pain to fumble with. It is encouraging that the other edge clamps that you have work well. Can you bear down some decent pressure on them before slip, like when gluing a laminated edgeband on a curved table edge?

I'm not sure how hard you can clamp with them before they slip because I've never had them slip. I put enough to hold them tight and the tighter you go, the more they grip. As you can see in the ad, the clamp pads are cams that tighten up. But I'm sure the Bessy's are MUCH better. ;) :D Try these. I like them.
