Ridgid Miter Saw Question

I recently purchased a Ridgid 12" compound miter saw with laser guide. It was the factory laser, not an aftermarket and I have a question for those of you with laser guides.

I cannot seem to get it lined up. When I line it up with the saw in the full upright, the laser moves sideways as I bring it down. Is this normal? It would actually be very accurate if I always remember to align the piece with the saw completely up. I've checked the saw for square and its square on both angles (with my GROZ square).

I watch Norm use his saw laser and it cust right through the line during the whole cut.

Any advice?

My Makita lines up to the right side of the blade when cutting. That's with the blade up or down. Doesn't seem right for the laser line to move when lowered.
