Is the new one usable on a router table? John Lucas, a member here, has a set of detailed instructions for making the older type work on a table. Not sure if this one has only cosmetic or mechanical changes.

That is a great router. I also have one in my table and it seems bullet proof.

Jim,

I purchased another (2nd) older style from the auction site a couple of weeks ago for my current mantle project. I elected for the old one based on the new base is different than the old one, and would not work (as best as I could tell from looking at in person) with my Woodpecker lift I have.

That router does not break a sweat with the 2+2 panel bit, that makes the entire cut, including the back cut in one pass.

I put mine in a Woodpeck UniLift with an Xtreme Extension. This combination works very well for me.

Pete I have the Woodpeckers Plunge lift made specifically for the M12V http://www.woodpeck.com/plungelift.html The pre-drilled mounting plunge lift does not line up with the holes on the new M12V2. So, unable to use the old lift with the new router, I opted for another old one.

With the unit you purchased it appears that you avoid having a lift made specifically for your router. They did not have this option when I put to the router & lift combo.

Nissim Avrahami made his router lift, for the Hitachi.

IMHO it's worth a look for these.

Dave. I looked at the Plungelift and decided on the Unilift when it went on sale. I had to ask for the plate drilled for the M12V2. Woodpecker sent both plates. The Unilift has a brake which locks the height, so I'm not reaching under the table each time.

Jack,
Amazon's pricing fluctuates depending on the number sold, how many are in stock, what color socks you are wearing etc. I just tried, and as of 11:20AM EST it was $117 for me. Check back, it may be less - but it may be more.

Now it's $117!! Holy cow!!! Only a fool would pass this up. I have 2 routers, one being a Hitachi TR12 that I bought in 1987. I've gotten 20 yrs. of hard use out of it, and it's still going! Might just have to spring for a M12V2, even if the looks are kindof......well......you know!

Joe, perhaps you could swing over to something on Amazon that is a must have for her, order another router and combine shipping? It's worth a try.

Not trying to hijack thread but would a plunge router or non-plunge router be the best choice for all these fancy lifts?

Alright, I was almost sold on the M12, as it was a great value in a table. I think this is a great deal. I have two questions for those of you that use it in a table, and those that use it above:

1) By buying this router, can I adjust it from above the table without a lift? I don't want to spend another $100.00 on a lift on top of the router. I would just go get the Milwaukee 3 1/2 HP model. I don't have a router table, and this will likely be my purchase if I can get it to raise from above the table without a lot of work.

2) How is this for hand use? I may by two if I hear good things, and use one above the table.

I appreciate your feedback.

Jim, Thanks for the mention. Hitachi sent me a new M12V2 and I have to admit I havent done anything with it except look. I asked RouterRazer if they had a lift for it and they said no and then they turned around and made one which I havent installed yet. Actually, Hitachi's own lift mechanism should work. My biggest disappointment was that they took out the old shaft lock which made it possible to change bits using an extension rod on that lock.
It is good for me to read the experiences of the posters here. I might get busy and try that router again. It certainly has always been a great one for table use. I literally have 7 in use around the shop.

I just saw in a google search that a company is selling the *pdf version of the Hitachi M12V manual for sale. Forget that. Here is one free from Hitachi site: http://www.hitachi.us/supportingdocs/forhome/powertools/discontinuedtools/woodworking/M12SA_OM.pdf

Well, I didn't get a reply, so I went out and bought two! I think I am out of control, but this is a great deal!

How much do you spend on a woodpecker lift? Just curious, as I believe I will be purchasing in the near future.

That's an awesome deal. I don't really need one but may get one anyway. My old PC 3.5 will probably outlast me but you never know.

I guess this is a silly comment but i sure wish they had not tried to keep up with Makita when they went to the brighter green and black, modernish/new-wavy look or whatever you want to call it.

I prefer their old soft metallic green look myself.

Dwain...was hoping someone would reply to your question. I ordered one but do not know if it will work on a Griz 1023 TS with the integral router table; looks like a smallish hole in the table. But again, although it is a good buy, is a plunge router the best choice or fixed base. My old router is about 34 now and still works, but it is so old it deserves a rest.
