Hi all,

thanks to the forum, i did my first finishing job.
oak (i think its red) ebonised with 6 coats of black leather shoe dye and 2 coats of waterbased polyurethane.

how does it look?

(ps im no woodworker and i only used material lying around. no spraygun or anything.)
its JET black, and the grain is just the nicest thing ive ever seen. its 200% better then i had ever hoped.

Part II wil be the bleaching.
i'll post those when the weather gets better so i can do it outside.

ps if anyone has pictures of 2 comp. bleached red oak, could u please post them? (with google i find like 20 different results... how will it really look?)

That's a good look. Satin and plenty of grain showing.

:D :D :D :D :D :D :D

*blushes*

i just hope the bleaching will turn out as good. Using shoe dye really is the easyest thing i've EVER done. i thought it would be a nightmare and take alot of skills to do it right, but its even easyer then just painting a wall.

i would advice anyone who wants to ebonise, to do it.
as you need lots of coats, u can easily and uniformly choose how dark u want it to be. do you want a black shine? or do u want it black with a slight transparency for the underneath wood or jetblack. Just stop at the amount of coats used, and it will be perfect.

man i LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVE it :D

really makes me happy thats you experts find it a good job. means alot to me.

greatings from the hapiest man on earth :D
