I am gluing up a few jewelry boxes that have floating panel top/bottoms. Any tips on minimizing the excess glue from messing up the inside of the box? Obviously you can't see the excess until you cut the top off the box later on.. Just thought I'd ask in case anyone had any tips..

Also, they are jatoba and tulipwood - epoxy glue or regular wood glue for the glue-up?

tx,
Matt

Tape the surfaces with blue painter's tape so that any glue squeeze-out will end up on the blue tape.

I route a groove on the inside of my boxes, and cut the panels accordingly. This way, no glue squeezes out through the bottoms, just through the top. MS Paint has all the answers for you in this attachment. The red is a top or bottom panel and the black is the sides. This is a side angled-cutaway shot. Sorry for the terrible drawing skills, I'm a woodworker not a painter... :p
