Boiling Wood Question

I have decided to experiment with boiling wood. I have boiled a couple of rough turned blanks at the recommended hour per inch. I then bagged them in paper grocery sacks. I know I could weight them every day to see when they stop loosing weight. But does someone have recommended time to let them sit? I have heard every thing from a week to 2 months.

Joel, I let mine sit a few weeks, approx. 4. Some pieces seem very dry at that time and finish nicely. Once in a while you will find a piece that seems a bit unstable and I just put it aside for another couple weeks. Be careful not to leave a core in the rim of the blanks you turn as they will surely crack after boiling. Phil

One of my fellow club members boils all his rough outs. Bags them for two weeks, dates them and leaves them sit 5 months. No monitoring, measuring, weighing, coating etc. His average piece size is probably 14", bigger than most turners. Good luck, let us know how your experiment goes.
