Thanks to Busman from CHW forum who's design with a few changes I shamelessly stole, the cremation urns for my wife and myself are finished. Cherry finished with tung oil which I let dry for a little over a month then applied lacquer. In the hopes they will not be needed for many years I decided to open them from the top using barrel hinges and a cheap cigar box latch from Lee Valley. Will use them to store photo's etc. until they are needed. Lined with leather.

Very nice work. Just curious, what is the volume of them?

Internal dimensions are 9" x 7" x 6". They are not designed to be placed in a crypt. The kids are to dump the ashes in the Bay of Fundy at some convenient time. After that they can use or dispose of the urns as they see fit.

Rule of thumb is 1 cubic inch required per pound of live weight.
