I was cleaning up my log cutting area and sealing some freshly cut blanks this morning. I decided to replace my cutting blocks with two part blocks since the tops get pretty chewed up from the chainsaw after a while. With two part blocks I can more easily replace to top part and retain the base. Well, as I started to cut up the old block ( a log about 16" in diameter and 2 1/2' high I started seeing red cuttings coming from the Stihl. I think it could be spalting but I've never seen red in southern Pine. Any thoughts? I decided to keep the parts with the red and turn them. :)

There isn't a case of a serial killer in your neighborhood is there?Funny you should say that. My first thought when I saw it coming out of the Stihl was, "Who's blood is that?"

Is Box Elder common in your area?... Red flames are common in Box Elder... I've only turned a couple, but the white wood makes the flames jump...pretty stuff..
