Plane blade replacement

Hi all,
I have searched the forums lately regarding using a Sargent blade in a Stanely #4/5 with no luck. Does anyone know if an older Sargent blade will fit the Stanely planes? I have found a couple of blades that interest me, but I don't want to buy them if they won't fit. I'd rather not file or otherwise modify the plane just to use these Sargent blades.

You must be talking about the thicker Sargent blades. I put one in a WW2 era #4 and it was my favorite plane for years. With the frog adjusted to where the back of the blade just touches the rear of the mouth, there was just the right clearance for the shavings.

I sold the plane to a member of this forum (Al Willits) to help pay for a bronze LN #4 that I just HAD to have. To be honest, The LN doesn't work any better than the old stanley did. But it sure is pretty. :D :D
