Hello all
I am new to Sawmill Creek, have been woodworking as a hobby for a long time. I sometimes build my tools, really enjoy making something with a home made tool. Here is a picture of a wood lathe I finished recently. It was clearly inspired by Oneway, 21" max swing and 1-1/2 hp motor with variable frequency drive.

Very nice Dennis, how long would you say it took you to build it ?

Wow really nice Dennis, great job. I tried the small wooden lathe found in Shop Notes a few years ago but I could never get the darn centers lined up right. I finally ended up trashing it but had fun making it.

Welcome to the forum, Dennis. Glad you decided to post. That is certainly a nice looking lathe... 21" Swing... Man! You don't do things half-way, do you? :) Looks like it ought to fill the bill !
I'm like the others... I'd like to see some more pics... bigger pics... and also something that comes off this new lathe. Great job!

That a beautiful piece of machinery. I'm also curious about the build time, as well as the materials cost. Thanks for sharing!

Welcome Dennis. Those must be some hefty spindles you've got planned for that machine.;) Ingenuity is always a favorite around here.

Thanks for the compliments.
* I did not keep a record of build time, started on it in March and finished in June. I work offshore 14 days on, 14 days off and spent a few days on this project each time I was home.

* I had to buy the motor, VFD, bearings and some of the steel. My cost was somewhere around $800. I don't have the machining tools or skills to build for sales - just an old metal lathe and small horizontal mill.

* Check out the tips section of this web site for info on the VFD http://www.easttexaswoodturners.org/

here are a couple more pictures, will have to sweep up shavings before taking more.
