Treated myself to a Mercury lathe this weekend from Woodcraft.

The last time I played with a lathe was back in wood shop in high school. I remember ducking flying chisels and blocks of wood (English schools), but the freedom pens project has inspired me to learn and get involved.

So, much like an addiction, I want more......after turning a couple of practice pens, I would like to try a bowl or cup.....

For those of you that have the Mercury, what kind of chuck you recommend I go get? Is there only one type? What should I look for? Yes, I am pretty green at turning but been woodworking for a few years now.

Thanks for any input you might.

Oh, and I bought the Tormek this weekend too. Great tool

Welcome to the addiction! And it's a stronger one that just about anything this side of very dangerous controlled substances that none of us would consider using...

Enjoy...and post pictures of your work big guy!
