I'm looking at purchasing a used 500 gallon or bigger LP tank for heating my shop (I'm tired of the rent/lease situation I'm in and can't get any better rent/lease deals with the other suppliers in our area..the lease prices here are getting ridiculous)....so I'm looking at buying a used tank...what should a person look for in a used tank as far as potential problem areas? How does one evaluate whether a particular used tank is any good? Is tank age a problem? The tank that the propane company leases to me is a 1958 vintage tank....

I wouldn't buy a used LP tank. I am not sure how the prices are in your area but a new 500 gallon tank installed (above ground) runs 1200 ish here. I almost bought one this week. After working with my supplier we have worked out our issues. You can usually save 30-50 cents a gallon if you own your tank. I would call around and check prices. The prices here ranged from 1200-4000
