I'm making window sashes for a garden shed. What type of wood would recommend? The sashes will be painted and glazed using putty.
Thanks, Ed

The old standby has been clear fir or heart pine. I'm sure that there are many options, but exotics for windows?

Are the windows already framed?

Around here I've seen them thrown out when people upgrade to new windows. If there not framed, I'd look for some used ones free.

I'd use Western Red Cedar

If you're painting and glazing, it dosen't much matter.

Thank you all for your recommendations.
The windows are odd ball dimensions and all we need is a sash that pivots on two hinges. The cost for custom made commercial windows is more than I want to spend. Of course I get a new chisel or something out of the deal.;)
