Grain direction for brass plate

I'm using Rowmark's Brushed Antique Gold/Black Metalgraph Plus for outdoor plaques. I can get more out of the sheet if I can run the grain vertical, but seems I've only seen the grain running horizontal. Should it always run horizontal?

Curt, we tend to run the grain for anything in the longest dimension. If the plaques you are making are taller verticallly than horizontally, then run the grain vertically...and vice versa.

I have to disagree on running the grain vertically. In my opinion it just never looked right.

I try to run the grain in the direction of the text. That generally means horizontal and always wastes some material.
