Mike Vickery kept raving about SMC so I've been lurking for about a month and finally decided it's time to introduce myself.

My name is Jason Clark and I live in Mesa AZ. I'm 29, have been married for 11 years and have 2 kids, Christopher age 5 and Rebecca age 2. I've been turning for about 2 1/2 years and upgraded to a Powermatic 3520B in early May. Below are 4 of my most recent turnings:

http://www.fourcornerswoodturning.com/sumacplatter.jpg
Curly African Sumac platter, 18" diameter, 1" deep. Wood locally harvested with Mike Vickery and Kevin McPeek from trees demolished for future development.

http://www.fourcornerswoodturning.com/mesquite31.jpg
Mesquite Bowl with clightly curly figure, 17 3/4" diameter, 5 1/2" deep. Wood locally harvested with Mike Vickery and Kevin McPeek from trees cut down by locally by road crews.

http://www.fourcornerswoodturning.com/paloverde4.jpg
Spalted and bug eaten Palo Verde winged crotch bowl, 16" across the points, 3 1/2" deep. Wood locally harvested from trees demolished for local freeway expansion. Sat in log form in my garage for 1 1/2 years while spalting and infested with bugs.

http://www.fourcornerswoodturning.com/bebbox3.jpg
Box Elder Burl lattice top lidded box. 3 1/2" diameter, 1 3/4" tall. Inspired by the work of Hans Weissflog and Hans Finsterwalder. After watching Hans Finsterwalder turn one of these a couple of weeks ago I developed my own process for turning these without the need for special jigs or tools.

I look forward to your responses and hope to become a much more active participant on this and other forums.

I've been here for a while, just lurking and trying to get my profile activated (stupid spam filter kept intercepting the activation emails).

Welcome Jason! Good to see you around.
I see the PV held together for you, it looks great. I might have to give the box a try, you know I've got a lot of wood right now for practice. Now if someone would just turn the heat off around here.

Welcome to the Creek Jason!
Seldom do newcomers make a splash like you did! I'd invite you to wade right in the water's fine...but you just did a double cannonball with a triple twist and perfect entry into the water!

I'm sure we can learn from you!

Welcome!

A big thank you to the whole group for the warm welcome. It's almost surprising to be welcomed with such open arms, even though it shouldn't be.

Sean, The AZ Woodturners group is doing very well. We're almost ready for the influx of winter members. I recently redesigned the website and added google ads, a classifieds page, and more. We just announced that we have Stuart Batty scheduled for an all day demo on November 3rd.

The Prescott event went very well. We had a great turnout and were treated to demos by Paul Porter, Greg Campbell, Bob Shields, Hans Finsterwalder, Robert Marvel, and more. Elbo tools was on hand as was a wood vendor out of Fresno. We raffled a Jet Mini and had 15 or so silent auction items with the proceeds from both going directly to the Yavapai College woodturning program. A good time was had by all.
