I am pricing ductwork.
I have 5hp Delta 50-903 cyclone that I need duct work for.
Here is the quotes I got today for local PVC.

6" 10' 2729 pipe - $18 - $1.80 per foot
8" 10' SDR35 pipe - $56 - $5.60 per foot
8X8X6 SW Wye - $44.78
6X6X6 SW Wye - $21.74
6X6X4 SW Wye - $18.95
8" 45 - $27.76
6" 45 - $8.14

Are these price in line with what other people have paid??
My DC has an 8" inlet that is why there is 8" listed.

Could I use 30ga snaplock with this DC? Bill Pentz recommended 26ga but I do not have any of that local.

Anyone using 2729 with SDR35 with good results?
Know of a good transition between 8"SDR35 and 6" 2729?

All this PVC pipe is GREEN - YUCK. Anyone paint theirs with any luck???

6" 10' 2729 pipe - $18 - $1.80 per foot This is a decent price. I paid 1.86/foot for the first 20 feet, the next 2 trips the guy only charged .944/foot.
8" 10' SDR35 pipe - $56 - $5.60 per foot
8X8X6 SW Wye - $44.78
6X6X6 SW Wye - $21.74 This is high. 14.01 from McMaster-Carr online.
6X6X4 SW Wye - $18.95 Decent price. I paid 18.86 at Lowes. They were closing these and the 6-6-6 wyes out for a buck each. My Lowes are out, but would be worth a look see.
8" 45 - $27.76
6" 45 - $8.14 Good price. 10.27 each at McMaster-Carr

All this PVC pipe is GREEN - YUCK. Anyone paint theirs with any luck??? The 2729 is green? Or just the SDR35? Some of my 2729 pipe was stained very badly. IIRC many here said to leave it alone and use it. I painted mine with the plastic spray paint. I used the plastic primer first. See here for the results: http://www.sawmillcreek.org/showthread.php?t=44296 post # 19. It has held up very well. Didn't use any 8" on my system, so can't help you with that. But the price of pipe goes up at a sharp rate for the bigger pipes. Good luck with your install! Remember to post pictures. Jim.\\

PS: Where are you from? If close to Northern Florida, I can point you to some information on the spiral piping that 2 guys have used that felt it was very reasonable. If you wont, PM me for the information. Jim.

Mike,
Those prices aren't to bad on the pipe. I was paying a little less for mine, 6" s&d (the white stuff) was just under $14.00 for a 10' piece.

Jim is correct on the snaplock pipe, don't use it. The thinner stuff is only rated for 2" of static pressure. (I was informed of this by a friend who does commercial heating & cooling.)

I ended up with a combination of 8" and 7" spiral pipe to reduce down gradually to the 6" s&d pipe for the remainder of the runs. 8" sch 40 pipe for the exhaust run, NO filters.

I didn't, haven't & won't add up what I have into the ductwork alone in my shop. It wasn't cheap by any means. If you are going to do it right, accept the fact your wallet will be getting thinner.

Ed, did you have any issues transitioning between the spiral pipe and the S&D?

Nope, piece of cake. I used a 7" to 6" reducer for spiral pipe. The pvc started over the reducer easily, then I pounded it on all the way up to the tapered portion of the reducer.

I also ended up making my own blast gates. Much easier than trying to find ones that will fit the 6" pvc.
This is a really good reference on making blast gates, the best I've found.

I did mine a little different, but same basic design.

Mike,

Menards carries 26 ga snap lock pipe in 4" through 6" diameter. I did't use any 8" diameter pipe so I don't know what gauge duct work it is.

30 gage snap lock isn't going to survive. Do check with your local HVAC and sheet metal outfits...you can often find spiral for very reasonable costs. And they can also often get you the 26 gage snap lock, even if it's not stocked.
