(small gloat) I just got a kitchen full of solid maple cabinets from a neighbor who was doing a kitchen remodel. I'll be using them in my new shop. I have never hung cabinets before and was wondering what the best screws would be to use. The studs are 16" on center if that makes any difference. Thank you for any help, Sean

2"-2 1/2" #12 pan head is what I generally use for cabinet hanging if screwing directly. But I prefer to use French cleats for an easier time of it at the top of the cabinet and then just a few screws in a row of cabinets at the bottom to insure they stay on the cleat "forever", as it were.

I like the cleat idea Jim, thanks. Any recomendations on where to purchase the cleats and size? Thanks again, sean

You can make your own very easily. Check out the following links:

Cleats are a great way to hang cabinets, but if you still want to use screws I highly recommend these: http://www.mcfeelys.com/product/1030-PSA/Almond-Cabinet-Hanger-Screws

Available in white or nickel finish as well. The square drive heads really help reduce cam-out. I've noticed similar at home centers but I don't recall if these were Phillips or square drive. I've been very frustrated with cam-out on Phillips head cabinet screws.
