Two More Colors Added to My Rainbow of Tools

Unlike some, I'm not after a color coordinated shop. I buy what seems to be the best tool for my needs and budget. In keeping with that quest I just added two new colors to my shop (errr ... garage).

The first is a Green and Cream Grizzly G0490 8" Jointer with Parallelogram Beds. I finally got this one up (literally) and running. It passed the nickel test the first time and does a great job. I used it today on my current project.

The second is a Yellow DeWALT 13" Model DW735 Two Speed Planer. I just got it today. WoodCraft is having a rebate where the stand is free if you buy the planer and an extra set of blades. This is my first planer.

I'm now all set up for major tools in my current location. Since my wife and I are planning to move after she retires in two years, I won't have a truly permanent shop until then. That's one of our reasons for a planned move (we also need to move to an area where we can have all our bassets).

Hey I thinkRainbow's are pretty !!! Very nice tools indeed my shop (Garage) is filled with Orange Ridgid mostly and Yellow and Blue and Bosch blue and pc gray so you see we all have colors galore I think !!!!!!!!:)

Great double goat... The parallelogram bed jointers have been peaking my interest as a replacement for my current jointer... Please give feedback down the road as to how it serves you.

Craig -- I do plan to post a review of these from the point of view of a first time buyer/hobbiest point of view after I've had a chance to work with them. For now I can say that I'm very happy with the jointer. Both the buying experience and shipping from Grizzly were great. Since it was the first time I bought a major tool that was shipped I was very aprehensive. Based on the job edge jointing the boards (red oak) I just ran through it yesterday, I'm very happy with the results. I didn't get a chance yesterday to even plug the planer in. Today, if all goes well, it will be used to plane the boards i jointed yesterday.

Don -- I've read a few posts on jointers and other tools that vibrate too much. Some people said to place a nickel on edge to see if the jointer vibrates too much. So, I tried that and my nickel just stood there on the table top. There isn't much vibration with this jointer, even at start-up.

Congrats on your machines...the planer is awesome and leaves a nice finish -- just make sure you wear the hearing protection as it is a screamer!
