I've been playing around with segmented bowls recently, this is a experiment using multi layer segments. I think it turned out rather neat, it has 144 pieces in it. It measures 7-3/8"by 4" with a wall thickness of 3/16" I finished it with Tung oil and buffed.

That is really cool! The last pic is like an optical illusion, you cannot tell if you are looking into the bowl or to the bottom.

WRONG!!!
(It's REALLY NEAT!)
I like the form, looks like a combination of regular and stave segmenting... VERY well done!

That is not neat at all, it's not even really neat.. It is freaking awesome! I love it! My question is, how did you get the curves on the pieces?

FANTASTIC!!! That's a real beauty. Nice and thin, great segment alignment and an awsome finish. That's gonna make people stop and stare for sure.

Jason, before I cut the boards into segments I glued the walnut and maple together so that on the inside of the bowl the segment had walnut and on the outside had maple showing and visa-versa. As you turn it you start to expose the inner wood and since the segment is a strait piece of wood you remove more off of the corners then the center, that gives you that nice curve.

Frank, nice job! This is a great example of what I call lamination trickery. It's relatively easy to achieve the effect, but very difficult to achieve such accurate results. Congratulations.

Thank you everyone for the compliments.
Malcolm, thanks for letting me know what to call that, I'm always gluing pieces together in different ways to see what the effect will be when I turn it.
I'm going to post another bowl tonight that i did the same way but with a different pattern.
