I would like to entertain suggestions on how to best re-hab this saw I purchased on ebay last night after one too many glasses of wine. I vaguely remember thinking that this would be a good project to learn how to sharpen. The fact that it was broken at the end didn't enter into my calculation. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. It's a Disston D8 -- that's about all I remember...
Thanks,
Allan

Allan, give this a look and you might try searching the Neander Section for more.

Just grind off the tip into a more pleasing shape. Use sandpaper wrapped around a sand block (320 grit or higher) to sand the blade being careful not to swipe the teeth, clean it, set the teeth, sharpen it...wax it and use it.

It's no big deal. Just don't turn the blade blue while grinding. Stop a little before your line to shape the toe to, and use a file the rest of the way if need be.

Take care, Mike

There are a few threads in the Neanderthal froum than have addressed this topic in the last week or so.
Bob Smalser has a nice tutorial to reference also.
