I know the shakers didn't have coffee tables, but I love the simple designs that they used. It's made out of mahogany, 19" tall & the top is 42" x 18". Ignore the messy shop. :o

Here's the haunched mortise & tenon to join the legs to the stretchers.

Then I tapered the insides of the legs.

And beveled the underside of the top.

Almost there :D:

Now I just need to do some more sanding, glue up the base, get some hardware to hold the top on & apply the finish.

I'll post some more pics when it's all finished, but that may take me a few weeks.

Jeff,

Very nice work. I agree with you, the simplicity of the Shaker style is quite inviting.

Nice joinery work Jeff. Theh joints look well done.

The coffe table has a very appealing look to it. It will be stunning when it's finished. Ve sure to post some pics when you get finished.

Coffee tables are a "recent" furniture addition. I think 1920's or 30's.

Nice work! I can hardly wait to see the finished product.

I've incorporated Shaker influence into several pieces I've done. I like the simple lines, also.

Beautiful work, Jeff! Shaker style remains my favorite and your table is a great example of why.

I'm curious as to the reason for the haunched tenons...just desire to do them?

Great looking table, what will be your joining technique for base to top? Please show us more when finished.

Just glue for the legs into the aprons, or are they pinned too?

Looks good!

Thanks to everyone for posting.

I'm curious as to the reason for the haunched tenons...just desire to do them?I thought it would be good to have more material on the leg where the end grain is short. I probably didn't need to haunch them, but I wanted to try.

Great looking table, what will be your joining technique for base to top? Please show us more when finished.I want to use those figure eight brackets with screws, but I don't have any hardware yet.

Just glue for the legs into the aprons, or are they pinned too?Just glue.

And the glue is drying right now. I also borrowed a random orbital sander to help smooth out the top. I'll probably apply Waterlox next weekend.
