Just finished my first ever table project for my wife's birthday. A gathering table, which measures 42"x37"x36". The top is padouk, the legs jatoba and the aprons canary wood. Didn't have any plans but listened to what my wife wanted and I am very pleased with the results.
Just thought I would share my satisfaction.

Nice work Dennis.

How did you find the padauk to work with? I done a couple projects with it and have a couple more on deck...and I really enjoyed it.

Oh, and welcome!!

Nice table, and the top looks lovely and flat, did you hand plane it?

Great color in that wood. Following your wife's instructions, now that's smart.

Thank you all for your nice comments and the welcome to SMC.

The padauk was a joy to work with. It was a 5/4 x 12" x 14'. I planed it to thickness (4/4), glued up two boards at a time. Used the drum sander to do the initial sanding then glued all together. Used a quarter inch round over bit for the edges. Just had to do light sanding with a finish sander for the top. Took me several attemps to find the right finish for the top. Ended up with 8 coats of wipe on poly.

The legs are two 6/4 strips of jatoba glued up. This was the hardest wood that I have ever cut a mortise in. I actually broke out in a sweat
I attached the top with Kreg screws. I do love the exotic woods. Living just north of Seattle we have several very good sources of exotics.

Thanks again.

Dennis
