View Full Version : Shellac over lacquer?

Maybe a very naive and strange question to ask - I know very little about shellac.

It's just that I've stained a tool handle and the application of shellac straight onto it causes the stain to dilute and so lose some of its colour depth.

Can I seal it with spray lacquer first and then apply shellac over the top of that? I just love the feeling of shellac over-against lacquer.

Cheers,
Adriaan

Yes. After the lacquer, buff with 0000 steel wool to even it out and provide a bondable surface. Top coat with shellac.

Take care, Mike
