Turned green... I got this wood from a neighbor - the tree was in their yard and a storm had blown it over and it finally had to be cut the rest of the way down. This bowl is going back to them as a "thanks for the wood".

It ended up 16" x 7" and is 5/16" thick. It is sanded thru 320 with oil applied for a very natural look.

Mark, that is a beauty. I really like the shape and the way the bark contrasts the light wood.

That really is pretty, Mark. I'm rethinking my attitude toward NEs...starting to like them, A LOT!!

Mark that is beautiful. I really like the natural look. I guess I will have to get me some ash as we have a lot of it around here.

Mark....that's another beauty!

Do you dry it anyway when you turn them to completion wet. I've heard of folks saying they use heat guns on them...or do you turn it wet and immediately go to finishing it?

This is probably the first NE I've turned green. After roughing out a couple the wood didn't seem real wet, so I gave it a try. Nothing extra done but turn, sand, apply some oil.

Mark

That is a very handsome bowl. Do you have a coring tool or did most end up on the floor?

No coring here, Terry. I've got several pieces of this wood that I'll be scrambling to get to before it's too far gone. The shavings ended up under a small stand of Dogwood trees in our yard - trying to hold some moisture in the ground while it is very dry here.
