We decided to remodel the living room. I started by pulling up the carpet to reveal the original white oak floor. It was in pretty good shape except for a few sections that needed to be replaced.

The floor is 5/16" thick and is nailed in place. I made my own flooring by resawing 4/4 stock, and decided to add a cherry border with an "inlay" of black walnut.

The cherry/walnut border was my wife's idea. I was originally going to add oak molding but somehow I can back from the wood store with this:

The figure on the second piece from the bottom is much more dramatic than it appears in the picture.

The fireplace wasn't exactly a thing of beauty. This is before:

Gluing up the mantle. It's honduran mahogany. I was going to get cherry to match the molding but LOML wanted mahogany. She didn't have to work very hard to convince me:

Molding & room view. I put cherry plywood on the insides of the window, the windowsill is solid cherry. It will be interesting to see if they darken at a similar rate.

Looks great, Dave. It's nice to see people with talents in multiple disciplines, i.e. stone work as well as ww.
