This is a bit of a test to see if I can get a few pictures up on SMC.

I'm a new turner and I've had my lathe (PM) and bandsaw (Rikon) for a couple of months now. Most of my time has been focused on cutting/turning blanks from square stock or lumber shorts/cut offs.

Most of the bowls are about 3" - 7" in dia. I finally located some green wood (American Elm) and have roughed out one "vase" and it is going through the DNA drying process.

I'll try posting a few close ups of some of the bowls.

And a platter...69457 (http://www.sawmillcreek.org/attachment.php?attachmentid=69457&stc=1&d=1186329296)
which I glued up from a piece of 3/4 lumber to start with a 1.5" blank.

Beautiful pieces, Rob! That Zebrawood bowl just reached out and grabbed me.

What wood is the platter? Love that grain.

Nancy,

The platter is about 11" in dia., walnut from a board, and finished with Waterlox Original.

The zebrawood was a love/hate thing while it was on the lathe, with grain going in various directions causing tearout. Overall, I'm pretty happy with it. It's about 6" in dia. and finished with Antique Oil.

All,

Thanks for the encouragement. I've learned a lot from this forum and I'm looking forward to trying some hollow forms in the near future.

All,

I've learned a lot from this forum

Rob,
Nice bowls!

As a relative newbie turner (only a couple of years) aren't forums great for info. Sure is nice to be in a community where knowledge is shared.

I didn't get back here until just now, but just want to tell you again how much I like this platter.

And I want to echo your comment "I've learned a lot from this forum." Not only have I learned a lot, I've also received so much encouragement and support from here that I've moved from pens to bowls--the second one is a work in progress right now. Just need to get the finish right--it's giving me fits.
