Amazon has the Hitachi KM12VC 2-1/4 HP Variable Speed Router Kit with plunge and fixed bases for $121 w/ free shipping. Great deal especially since this is the variable speed model.

I just placed an order also. If the plunge is smooth enough I will use it as a dedicated router on my FMT. Thanks for the tip

My two-base kit just arrived from Amazon (I snagged it at the $115 mark after the kudos expressed here). I just got it out, and have not run it yet, but am disappointed in the fit and finish of the metalwork- the visible metal parts on the body of the fixed and plunge bases looks like rough-cast pot metal. There is visible pitting, and the mating pieces, while they seem securely fastened, do not fit tightly together.

Is this normal for a "new" (swoopy green) Hitachi? Purely cosmetic and nothing to worry about? My only other Hitachi is a die-hard old M12V router, which is a true soldier, and to look at it, a much better-made piece of equipment than the new one. Any thoughts?
