Finally able to get back in the shop. I roughed this one during my class in Indianna a few weeks ago. Finished up at 11" diameter by 7" tall with carved feet. Buffed Antique oil finish.

Beautiful piece Travis! Great form - really like the contrasting colors in the wood! Also like the way the bark slants into the opening - looks beyond brittle!! Very nice work!

It looks like that one wanted to come apart in several places. I was looking at and trying to figure out what it started as with the sapwood on the inside. Am I correct that it was a crotch piece in the beginning?
I think that is one that turners will appreciate more the average person because they know how hard it is to keep all that different wood together. Very nice job.

Yes Brett, it was a crotch. It came from the 2nd fork in the tree, I turned it whole.

Travis,

It looked good when you were turning it, but it looks better finished. Great job. Was it completely dry when you finished it? Mine are still losing weight, but I can;t wait to finish them.

It was completely dry Paul. I soaked it in DNA as soon as I got it home. Looking forward to seeing yours finished. ;)

Hi Travis,

I enjoy many of your turnings, I like this one a lot, I'd say right up there with the best I have seen you turn. You also take great pictures, your work with the camera really enhances your turnings .:)

Travis, this one is awesome! I normally am not a fan of NEs, but this one really grabs me.

Now....why don't you take a long break and let some of the rest of us catch up???? You keep raising the bar like this, some of us will never make it up there. :p ;)

Thats really beautiful. Seems to me that the general shape of most HF's is about the same. But all HF's are a wonderfull forum to present a great piece of wood. I think you have really utlized the wood and leaving the bark is the detail that sends it over the top. Technically, wow! Im amazed by your sense of proportion, balence and skills..

Thanks!
Tom

Thanks everyone, much appreciated. Tom, that's what got me hooked on turning hollow forms, I hated turning nice wood into curls on the floor. ;)
