i just got a locking miter joint bit for my shape.

is there a way to "hide" the joint at the ends?

any tips on set up? i hear it's tricky to get it adjusted correctly the first time. I'm using it on thick stock (1 inch) and long joint (85 inches)

thanks!

Getting the height of the bit set must be very exact for a correct fit. I found the easiest way of doing this is to center the profile on your stock as best you can and then run a short sample. Cut this length of sample in half, turn the pieces opposite and on a flat surface, join them together as you would a glue joint. Adjust the bit height until these are alligned perfectly; the bit height is now set perfectly. Now, one piece is run flat on the table and the other is run standing on its edge against the fence.

I just bought a lock mitre bit for my router table last week. The setup didn't take too long using the instructions provided (available on lee valley website). The woodshop demo website has a neat tutorial where he shows you how to use playing cards to fine tune the height of the bit. Find it here: http://www.woodshopdemos.com/cmt-sop-1.htm
