I have a old Duro 12" scroll saw which has a oil reserve in the bottom and need to know what type of oil to put in there. I think the oil that was in there was from when it was new(late 40's early 50's) . I had to do some repairs on it and that oil was nasty looking and smelling.

I think 30 weight non-detergent motor oil would work fine. I bought a quart at autozone, and have been using it in my old Craftsman scrollsaw.

I was thinking of using 30 weight, wanted to check. My other idea was to use compressor oil.

Either would probably work fine. If I remember correctly, air compressor oil is almost the same as 30w non-detergent.

Hello,

had to do some repairs on it and that oil was nasty looking and smelling.
It could be GL 5 or GL 6 - both much heavier than 30W.
Even new in the container, GL 5 and GL 6 look nasty and smell worse.
