I've just picked up an Inca 259 Cab unit and I am dismantling the unit in order to clean out some ancient caked on dust along the elevator part. In order to take apart the elevator from the base I need to remove the black rest disk on the shaft that the blade sits against. (part #54.018.025)

...and I did remove the belt pulley ring and set ring from the other side.

any ideas? I rather not manhandle it to remove it,
there must be a simple method I'm just not seeing.

thanks all,
Roger

Is it just that the wheel is "stuck" on the shaft and you've already removed everything that might be holding the wheel in place? If so, what you need is a wheel puller (http://www.sears.com/sr/javasr/product.do?cat=Mechanics+Tools&pid=00946906000&vertical=TOOL&subcat=Automotive+Specialty+Tools&BV_UseBVCookie=Yes).

There is lots of good Inca information available at:

WAIT! Before you remove that, make sure you're going to be able to get it back on. If they used a hydraulic press to install it, you may not be able to easily reinstall it once removed.

For reinstalling a press fit wheel, you need an arbor press, but something can be jury rigged like this (http://owwm.org/viewtopic.php?t=22079&highlight=). I've done something similar using pieces of wood and some clamps for press fitting the bearings of my lathe headstock back on. It's easier than you might think. The main thing is to make sure that the wheel is adequately supported.

In the end I decided that taking the disk off and getting it back on even with Wilbur's suggestion (by the way thank you for the link) would have taken (way) longer than just carefully manipulating the elevator and the base and just cleaning between them.
