segmented square bowl and pedestal

This piece is made of oak and maple, measures 8 1/2'' tall and 6 1/2'' wide. Lacquer finish. I have been wanting to do something like this for a while, don't think it looks bad, but I would do things different if I had it to do over. Mike, it’s always fun to see segmenters try something new. The subtle colors seem to work well together. I can’t really tell what you’ve done regarding wood grain alignment; I hope most of it goes the same direction. Regarding the form, with hindsight (which is always 20/20), I think the profile curve from base to the top rim has a few too many disruptions. Beads, etc are fine, but they work better when the overall outline flows. If you were to more or less “connect the dots” on this outline, the profile would not flow very smoothly. Just something to consider. Still – it’s a cool piece.
