I've recently taken an interest in box making and having a blast with it. I whipped this simple little box together over the past week and thought it turned out well enough to share.

Padauk with rabbet joints and rounded over corners. 2 coats of teak oil followed by 4 coats of General Finishes SG wiping poly. Waxed using 0000 steal wool and then hit on the buffing wheel.

Thanks for looking.

Beautiful box Bob,

I have a truck load of Padauk, Thanks for the finish idea. I hate to say I love the smell of the stuff when working with it. One of the hazzards of the exotics.
Dust collection is a must!!

Bob, how did you do the rabbets? Saw? Router?

Brian,

The rabbets were done on my router table.

I join ya on the smell of padauk. My problem was cleaning up the sanding dust. After finishing some candlesticks, I had dust on the shop wall behind the lathe. Thought I would be smart a wipe it off. NOT!!!!!! Did not know just how oily the wood was.
Ended up wiping down the wall with MS. WHAT A MESS. The candlesticks were/are pretty.

NIce work, Bob. Your finish process really brings out the beauty of padauk. I recently acquired my first piece of padauk and now need to decide what to make with it!
