I just got done turning a maple HF with the walls at just a hair under 1/4". It was some pretty wet stuff. It was a nice piece of maple log and for some reason the pith was clear out at the edge so when turning the pith went. I want to put a collar on it so don't want to take it off the lathe till that is done. How long do I need to let it set before I start putting the collar on? Do I go ahead and put my Antique Oil on the inside or just leave it till I am done? I did that on some cherry and it moved slightly. You can feel the edge of the collar. Thanks.
