Here's some pictures of the progress on my workbench. The end vise is built around a oak inner 'core'.

I dovetailed the doghole components for strenght.

The top is also rosewood. After careful layout, I drilled holes and removed the waste for the dogholes, finishing with a sharp chisel.

These are the tools I used to level and flatten to top. Jointer plane, smoothing plane, and a razor sharp # 80 cabinet scraper.

The perfectly flat top, done by hand with no power tools.

That's a wonderful bench Robert. So what's the story behind the hand planes, who's the maker.

Both planes are by a maker named LANGESKOV.
I don't know much about them other than they are beautifully made and have John Weiss irons. I bought them as a set several years ago , and use them constantly.
Thanks for the compliment.

Argh! I am looking high and low for some flecked QS white oak that is 5/4" or thicker with no luck and then I stumble on this thread with the BeeeYuuuTiFul QSWO bench pictures!!!! Built out of 8/4" + QSWO! Very nice bench, want to trade some QSWO for a truckload of BC Douglas Fir or Western Red Cedar perhaps? We even have bug kill pine with a nice blue colour. :D

Back to prowling the lumber yards (off to the big city this afternoon - maybe they have some)
