I have the PC 4212 jig and every time I use it, there is a big mess of sawdust to clean up. Sound familiar? Is there a hood that will fit it? I see that Rockler has one for their jig, but does anyone know if it will fit? What do y'all use?

thanks in advance!

David

I have the Leigh dust collection accessory that fastens to a router. The few times I've used it, it performed quite well and the outlet works fine with my Festool hose. The main reason I rarely use it is that it gets in the way of my vision for the cut. So I tend to just wear my turning smock (which seals at the neck) while I'm cutting dovetails and then sweep up the resulting mess to one of my floor sweeps to be sucked up by the cyclone from time to time.

Which one is that Jim? I have been waiting for the Leigh Vacuum and Router Support (VRS) but it doesn't seem to be available yet.

The one they've had for years (http://www.leighjigs.com/rva.php).

David,
I have adapted Rockler's DC to a PC 4212. You have to buy longer bolts to mount it and drill 2 new holes on the DC. It doesn't get all the dust/chips, but it sure helps.

Thanks. I think I'll wait for the VRS.

I have two of these since I will normally set up 2 routers when working with my Leigh jig. They do work very well and I've set up my jig on a storage box I made for it, so the jig sits at chest level so I don't bend over very much.

I too am anxiously waiting for the new router vac attachment. It looks to be a vast improvement and there's nothing to setup on the router itself. A big plus.

Currently I have no collection on my 4212.
I've thought about it, but haven't done anything.

I usually just pull my t-shirt out and cover the front of my jeans up trying to keep the dust/chips outa the front of me

Alex- Interseting set up. Maybe I'll try it. In your opinion, is it worth the trouble and cost? Does it hinder the usability of the jig? I'd like to believe there is a better solution than sweeping the floor!

thanks

David,
The only PITA is when you have to adjust the offset guide on the jig, the DC has to come off in order to gain access to it; not a big deal though. Knowing what I know now, I'd still buy it. Sure beats sweeping the floor. In the first picture you can see some chips on the floor from cutting one board.

Thanks Alex, I may be stopping at Rockler tonight or tomorrow and I'll pick one up.
