Texturing questions

I'm getting set to begin some experimenting with texturing and dying and a question has popped up. What is the best material to mask a portion of the wood I don't want to texture?

If you are a member of AAW you have a copy of a DVD given to members with a demo about that very subject. Its an excellent DVD and well worth membership fees just for the DVD. If you aren't a member, find a friend who is a member and ask to borrow theirs, you will enjoy.
