Everyone loves looking for things in turnings and each can see something different. What do you see in this one? Part of a Walnut crotch piece with a serious bark inclusion through the bottom. I left the walls around 1 1/4" thick mainly because of the inclusion, but also for the figuring. It has a nice heft to it ;) . 12" diameter by 2" deep, buffed Antique oil finish.

It looks like one of my thin walled platters. I see a giant crow attacking Tokyo.

Left side, I see a wolf standing on an outcrop of rocks,
but then again its early and I don't have my contacts in yet.

Beautiful platter Travis! Great looking wood and finish! Reminds me of a lake shore... Paul is right - it's way to early!!

ummmmm a monster standing on the front end of a surf board on a realtively calm ocean. The sky is slightly overcast with swirling clouds.

I have too vivid of an imagination sometimes!

Travis, I personally like the thickness of the piece. It makes it look substantial, especially when laying flat.

It's a dogsled moving across a snowdrift.

Seriously though, this is a nice platter. I like the figure and the way you presented it.

Beautiful Travis. What I see is a dragon on the water looking back over it's left shoulder.

Great piece, Travis...and I think you are celebrating both the figure and the "heft" very nicely!

I'm pretty sure I see Elvis...

The grain variation there provides much to look at. However, my eye is instantly drawn toward what appears to be remnants of the buffing efforts imbedded in the inclusion.

Out on the rim is the ear, right where the rim meets the bottom is the eye, and just to the right of that is the snarling jowls of a wild boar facing into the wind. (maybe I need a little sleep)

That's a heck of a hunk of wood!

Some neat observations. :D
I see a building storm approaching the cliffs of a shoreline, with the wind rippling the water. ;)
Leo, I can assure you it's not buffing lint:rolleyes: , the tree grew along a creekbank, and that's embedded sand in the inclusion.

A very nice piece Travis, it has a sort of rustic look to it, almost mid-evil.
