View Full Version : Punky Fruit Cherry HF

This is from a piece of fruit cherry, Lambert I think, that had a punky dead branch imbedded in the wood. I tried all kinds of things to stabilize the punky wood but it still just crumbled out. So I decided to use the rough crumbled area as an "enhancement" and just left it rough. The punky area is soaked with CA and then it was finished with Danish Oil. 6" x 6"

Curt, your starting to tick me off. I'm sitting here at work instead of turning, and I'm seeing these pieces wishing I was in the garage right now turning my own pieces. Your stuff always looks so good. Do you ever screw up a piece, or have one not come out great?

Beautiful piece Curt. I've got some maple items roughed out that may end up with some 'enhancements'. Hopefully they turn out as nicely as yours did.

Nice capture of what could have been firewood, Curt. Sometimes, the worst prospect looks best, doesn't it? Just takes a little faith and perseverance (OK, maybe a lot of each).

Very nice form and finish. The coloration in the wood is special too. Cherry is hard to top for end results, such as this.

Gorgeous, well done, HF, Curt, both, form and finish. Danish Oil? How did you keep it such a light shade... mine usually darken quite a bit when I use DO.

Allen, I think there are different shades of Danish oil. I know there is atleast two, natural and antique. The antique will darken it some. Not sure about the natural. After ruining one piece with the antique variety I swore off DO. It was my fault, just havn't gone back and tried it again.

By the way Allen welcome to the creek. Maybe being pretty close we could meet sometime for a creeker gathering with a few other West Texaners!!!
