It's not some of the intense work you all do, but I am proud of it none the less.

Cornhole boards, this is one of two.

I do have one question though. When I puttied over the screws, and then it dried and I sanded. I get this. How do I avoid this?

Looking at your pics, it looks to me like you may be applying a bit too much putty at first...then trying to sand it all back off. I suggest using a metal putty knife, and really working it into the hole. Then scrape off all of the putty that is "above the hole" and on the surrounding wood. Allow the first application to dry, then do any minor sanding as needed. If the hole still isn't quite filled re-apply a very small amount and scrape off any excess that is not filling a void in the hole. At least that is how I do it.

Everytime I have used putty, that is what I get after the first application. Nature of the beast, it shrinks as it dries. Always takes a second and sometimes third shot. I usually don't sand between, because I can't get down into the hole anyway. I just put the putty on and scrape off level to the wood with the metal putty knife and repeat until I get it dry at or slightly above the wood surface, then sand flush. Jim.

Yeah looking at them, the ones that I used the least on and scrapped it in more do look a lot better. I guess I will just go back over them and add a little more putty to get them nice and flat.

Thanks for the help. :)
