Thanks again to Ernie Nyvall for bringing a load of Mesquite this Spring. ;)
This one ended up at 12" diameter by 6 1/2" tall with a rolled Ebony collar. I filled the windshake checks with epoxy and charcoal dust. 2 coats of Minwax Antique oil, then buffed.

That piece of mesquite has a lot of character. I really like the rolled collar, too. Nice!

Travis, beautiful HF, I've never heard of using charcoal dust/epoxy to fill cracks/voids. Well done!!

Very nice. You are a braver man then me. I probably would not have turned it woth the shake in it. I like the color.

One question for you. When I have used epoxy as a binding agent for filling cracks it seems to not shine up as much as the wood. Have you noticed that before or do you advice to help avoid it?

Mike, if anything, it might end up shining more than the wood if it's coarse grained. I powersand through 800 grit and the epoxy gets polished pretty good.

Another Stinson masterpiece! That little piece of bark you left on the underside looks good. And I like how you use the charcoal filler. I have to try that sometime.
