Help,
Completed turning a redwood platter. Have applied 4 coats of lacquer sanding sealer, sanding with 320 between first to and 400 after second two coats.
Now, antique oil and buff? 5 or 6 coats sprayed lacquer?
Platter not a daily user, more for display with occasional use since it is soft wood and will dent easily.
Help,
Thank you all in advance,
Ernie

The sanding sealer has ruled out an oil finish. Once a film finish has been applied you can't put a finish that is meant to be "in-the-wood" on top, it will dry to be much too soft. I would use the specific top coat that the sanding sealer was designed for, likely lacquer from the same company. In my mind, sanding sealer is a specialty product, desirable mostly as a commercial expedient to speed finishing, or under certain particular top coats that need a particular sealer for adhesion.

Thanks Steve. Guess its off to the spray booth to shoot some lacquer. Ah well, next time, oil first, then sanding sealer if used. What's the old saying, "Live and learn"?
Again, thank you,
Ernie
