This is one of the first pieces of found wood that I got when I started looking for logs. It was about 8 months ago. Just re-turned and finished last night. The wood is Acacia and it is 9.5 x 3.25 with a Watco finish that has been buffed.
Thought you guys might be getting bored with all the Mesquite

Sorry for the lousy pictures. My wife is going to give it away tomarrow and I did not have time to set up to get a good pic.

Comments and critiques are always appreciated.

Well done Mike. It is a beauty. I am like Travis. Never get tired of looking at or turning mesquite.

Wow that's some beautiful found wood, I love the look of meqsite but to us on the east coast that's an exotic wood!

Nice bowl, would look better in mesquite! JUST JOSHIN'. Love the grain and sapwood in it.

Come on Tyler you are killing me I know you have Acacia in Texas, you need to go find some. I bet you will like it even better then Mesquite!

Yes I know strong words, but many of the same working properties and just as stable as mesquite.

Bored with mesquite--I don't think I'll ever get bored with any wood. But walnut is my favorite.
Beautiful bowl -- love the contrast -- is it sapwood to heartwood contrast or is it just feature of Acacia?

Jim,
That is the sap wood which on the logs I got were very white. The wood itself is mostly brownish but has streaks of yellow and red in it. The wife actually decided to give away an African Sumac Bowl instead so I may try to get a better picture of it. All the logs I got were really irregular and you pretty much had to leave some sap wood in. I found my original post after I found it and was trying to get an identification for it.

Personally, I love the sapwood to heartwood contrast in woods and look to preserve it in my blanks. One thing I've found is that sapwood has a tendency to darken when exposed to sunlight.

Nice one Mike. It does look similar to the mesquite but with more red in it. I'll have to keep an eye out.
