Just for fun I thought I'd post a pic of the new lathe in action using the 1" bowl gouge on a piece of Cottonwood that Nancy was nice enough to give me when she visited awhile back. Travis Stinson did most of the work on this piece but I helped:D . It is drying now and will hopefull be ready to finish in another week or two. A side note, I had never turned cottonwood before and I quickly found out that it STINKS !!

Yeah, Keith. I didn't realize that cottonwood has a very "distinctive" aroma. I'm looking forward to seeing the finished product--I'll keep an eye on this thread and look for pictures.

What? No comments about your new lathe or the massive gouge you're using?

I'm sorry Steve !! I'm am really just getting the feel of this lathe. None of the controls are where they were on my last one. Even the banjo and tool rest are different. But everything is falling into place and I will tell you this, it is as smooth as a baby's bottom. I love the 1" gouge for removing material quickly.

Keith looks like you are giving the lathe a good workout. I am happy for you that you found such a deal. Keep us posted on the piece you are turning. Would like to see it finished.
